Before Frances Ha ran through Paris or the Girls of New York struggled with rent, there was Susan Weinblatt.
In Claudia Weill’s 1978 indie masterpiece, Susan (Melanie Mayron) is an aspiring photographer living the bohemian dream in a dusty Upper West Side apartment—until her best friend and roommate, Anne, decides to trade their shared life for a husband and a house in the suburbs.
